This fabulous photo is from the first Cape Mentelle International Cabernet Tasting back in 1982. Cabernet Sauvignon has well and truly helped to put Margaret River on the world map so come in see what all the hoo-ha is about before #CabernetDay! 2014 is currently proving itself to be a show off vintage for Margaret River, here are just two of our favourites:
EVOI CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
From talented winemaker Nigel Ludlow comes this beautiful Cabernet bursting with berry fruits supported by plum, black olive, fresh tobacco leaf and cocoa notes. With 95 pts from James Halliday, this is a top example of why Margaret River is one of the country’s most celebrated Cabernet regions. $31.99
MANTRA CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2014
One of the standouts of our recent staff Cabernet tasting. The Mantra is a winning combination of dark chocolate, mocha, and blackcurrant with an earthy backbone. A winner at this price from Indie winemaker Brad Weir.
For those wanting to look further afield than Margaret River here are two more of our current favs:
Di Giorgio Family Coonawarra Cabernet 2015
Change it up with a solid Coonawarra Cabernet built on black currant and boysenberry fruit aromas with vanilla spice characters. Soft on tannins with a lovely toasty oak finish. $27.99
3drops cabernets 2015
From the Great Southern comes this vibrant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The nose shows aromatics of blackberry and raspberry intermingled with vanilla from the wine’s French oak maturation. The palate is a balance between soft dark berry fruit and unobtrusive tannins.
